Like a game of musical chairs, students from Humble High School walked around a table, carefully choosing their chairs. Although there was no music and plenty of seats, when this school year ends the 10 students will finish on top. Literally.

The students are the highest ranked seniors in Humble High School’s Class of 2009.

“These top tier students will go on to do great things,” said Principal Charles Ned. “Our top 10 is reflective of the diversity of our campus.”

Valedictorian Jonathan Sheffield will be attending Texas A&M University in College Station where he will major in chemical engineering. Sheffield, who attended Humble Elementary and Humble Middle School said his most memorable activities were singing in the a cappella choir, lettering in golf and being a part of the National Honor Society.

Salutatorian Kellen McGriff will study business administration at Texas State University. McGriff is a recipient of the McCoy School of Business Scholarship. He said his most memorable high school moments were being a three-year varsity letterman on the baseball team, volunteering at Octavia Fields Library and being nominated for the Elliot Curtis Leadership Award.
